About Volcano West

We are a collective of writers, photographers, earth scientists, and explorers passionate about the diverse geology and breathtaking scenery of the American West. Our backgrounds span field geology, environmental education, conservation, and creative arts, united by a common love of wild places and the stories they tell.

Through Volcano West, we craft in-depth stories, evocative photography, and accessible guides that illuminate the forces—both ancient and ongoing—that have shaped volcanoes, mountains, canyons, deserts, and the people who call these landscapes home. We believe that knowledge and wonder go hand in hand.

Our purpose is to inspire curiosity and stewardship by revealing not just the monuments and vistas, but the powerful processes that continue to mold the West. By connecting readers with these remarkable places and their histories, we hope to foster deeper appreciation and lasting care for the natural world.
